Virat Kohli reinforced his heartfelt love for Test match cricket upon his return to national duties via the coming two-match Test series in South Africa. The Indian legend hailed the great format and called it the "foundation of the game" of cricket.

Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the opening Test of the series in Centurion, starting Boxing Day (December 26), Kohli spoke in glowing praise of the red-ball format amidst difficult times when Test cricket is being pushed to a corner and T20Is are given the forefront spot in the international cricket hierarchy by administrators for easy money.

The modern-day maestro has always been open and honest about his deep-felt admiration and love for the grind of Test cricket and believes the five-day game entails the truest examination of a cricketer's skill and temperament at the highest level.

Kohli Reinforces Love For Test Cricket

In a heartwarming clip shared by the Indian broadcaster for the much-anticipated 'Gandhi-Mandela' Trophy, Kohli once again underlined his respect for Test cricket and said he gets the most satisfaction ending up on the winning side while playing this format above anything else.

"Test cricket to me is the foundation of the game," Kohli said. "It's history. It's culture. It's heritage. It's everything. You come out on the other side at the end of four days or five days, it's a different feeling against anything else that you experience."

"As an individual, as a team, the job satisfaction of having played a long innings for your team and making the team win a Test match is probably the most special for me."

"I am a traditionalist, so for me playing in whites, playing Test cricket is everything," he added. "I feel honoured to have played more than 100 Test matches for my country and pursue my dreams of becoming a Test cricketer."
