The Indian cricket team witnessed a heartbreak at the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 as they lost the title to mighty Australians. Since then, the core senior group hasn't been able to recover and went on an imminent break.

Captain Rohit Sharma and batting stalwart Virat Kohli gave the white ball leg of the extensive South Africa tour a miss to focus and prepare well for the two-game test series scheduled from 26th December 2023.

Having said that, the white ball leg concluded earlier this week. While India clinched the ODI series, Suryakumar Yadav split the shorter format trophy with Aiden Markram.

Now, the biggest challenge awaits the Indian cricket team. The two-game test series goes on floors from boxing day, i.e., 26th December 2023.

Ahead of the first test game, the dynamic duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli touched down in South Africa earlier this week.

The duo also appeared before Star Sports to share their thoughts on the mighty challenge and reflected on the test format's importance.

When Rohit was asked to explain what test cricket means to him, the former reckoned that it's a unique format and test cricket holds a special place in his heart.

Rohit Sharma believes that as a sportsperson, one always looks for challenges, and test cricket is a format that requires the players to be on their toes for five consecutive days. The room for error is marginal.

Thus, to the skipper, the red ball format is a real test that challenges an individual as a person, cricketer, and sportsperson.

Indeed, the test format is the pinnacle of the sport of cricket. Every professional team dreams of striking excellence in the red ball format. As far as the Indian side is concerned, they have made it to every World Test Championship final held to date. The team is ranked amongst the best in the business.

However, the men in blue's track record is not that great in South Africa. Thus, the senior group will strive to change the narrative this winter.
