The much-awaited Indian Premier League 2025 edition will likely see some unforeseen changes, especially considering the demands put forward by several franchise owners during the pre-mega auction meeting with BCCI.

These demands, which range from player retention rules to RTM, could significantly impact the composition of the teams in the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whether some big cricketing names will continue to be part of their franchises or will they make the big money move?

One such player is India's Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma. The five-time IPL-winning captain was stripped of his leadership role in the 2024 IPL season as Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya in a big, unexpected move.

Rohit Sharma Could Leave Mumbai Indians

As the upcoming mega-auction approaches, Rohit Sharma's fate with MI hangs in the balance. If MI opts not to retain him, the 2025 auction could turn into a thrilling bidding war. Hitman's vast experience and tactical acumen make him a prized asset. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the two skippers in the IPL with the joint-most successful captains in the tournament's history; numerous franchises would be eager to hit the big jackpot.

Punjab Kings is one such franchise. Now that Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement, the franchise is looking for a new leader.

Sanjay Bangar, the franchise's head of cricket development, revealed that  Rohit could be picked by them; however, the 37-year-old will command a premium price.

"It all depends on whether we have the money in our pockets. If Rohit comes in the auction, I certainly believe, he is going to go for a high price," said Bangar in an interaction on the RAO Podcast Youtube channel.

Rohit has played in all 17 seasons, amassing 6,628 runs at an average of 29.72 in 257 matches.
