The T20 World Cup 2024 is underway in style with USA notching up a win in the curtain raiser. The co-hosts West Indies will start their campaign against Papua New Guinea and the whole Caribbean would be hoping that they bring out their best in this home World Cup.

Rovman Powell is the captain of West Indies and he is looking upbeat about his team's chances after some good performances leading upto the tournament. Also, Andre Russell is back in the Windies side for this World Cup and Powell is naturally pleased with the star all-rounder's presence.

He stated that Andre Russell would walk into any international team and so when he decided to make himself available for the World Cup, he was an automatic choice. Powell added that Russell brings a wealth of experience with him and his recent good form in IPL for KKR is a good sign for them.

"If Andre Russell rocks up for any international team, he would definitely slot in within the team. So that is no surprise to see Andre automatically slot in to our team. He comes with a wealth of experience, and he comes with additional confidence on the back of good performances in the IPL."

Powell is hopeful that Russell will play a big part in the tournament and they will go onto win their third T20 World Cup title.

"So we are looking forward to Andre Russell being a significant part of our World Cup and hopefully we can be a three-time World Cup champion after this one."

West Indies won the T20 World Cups in 2012 and 2014, but were pretty poor in the 2022 T20 World Cup and it would be interesting to see how they go about their business infront of their home crowd.
