It was a critical game for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side, who got past Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home in Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi by 14 runs. However, during the game, KKR's skipper Ajinkya Rahane, injured his hand.
Ajinkya Rahane Shares Injury Update After DC Clash
Speaking after the game, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 26 off 14 deliveries with four boundaries and a six, got injured while fielding in the second innings of the game. It all happened during the first ball of the 12th over, when Rahane, in an attempt to put his hands on the ball of a shot by Faf Du Plessis, couldn't hold it cleanly and, as a result, injured his fingers.
Later, the ball turned out to be a no-ball, but Rahane walked off the field with the physio and never returned to the centre, as he was heavily bleeding. His hands were strapped with bandages, and he kept himself out for the remainder of the match, where Sunil Narine put his hand up and turned in as the stand-in skipper for the side, helping them to victory in a crucial, must-win encounter by 14 runs.
After the game, speaking during the post-match presentation, the skipper confirmed, and gave a major update, that his hand is okay and, in fact, he will be fine before their next game.
Speaking ahead, he lauded Sunil Narine's valuable effort of 3/29 in his four overs, where he changed the course of the game with triple strikes in no time. Additionally, he praised his team's effort and always believed that they were ahead in this game.
"I will be okay I think. I will be fine. I think after 13 overs when Sunil bowled those two overs and picked up two wickets. They lost quick wickets and that was the game for us. 204 on that wicket was good but we were 15 runs short on that wicket. We were going well as a batting unit. As a fielding unit you were always 1 or 2 wickets away when the opposition is chasing 205. Sunil bowled well and Russell's one over in between and Anukul Roy as well,"
Kolkata Keep Themselves Alive On The Table
After this thrilling encounter, the Kolkata Knight Riders side have gained their fourth win of the season in 10 matches, while they have lost five matches so far as one of the game was abandoned due to rain, which means they have nine points and a net run rate of +0.080, considering they are seventh on the table.
On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals, who lost their fourth game after 10 matches, have 12 points and a NRR of -0.362, and will now be up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad side on the 5th of May.
