In a recent interview with sports journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit Sharma revealed his desire to shatter Chris Gayle’s record of the most sixes in international cricket. The Indian skipper is currently second to the universe boss with 539 sixes under his belt.

In comparison, Chris Gayle has smashed a staggering number of 553 sixes across all formats. So, Rohit trails behind Gayle by only 14 sixes, and it is highly likely that we may witness a day when he surpasses Gayle’s belligerent six-hitting record in the coming weeks.

The 36-year-old never anticipated that he would reach such a moment in his international career where he would be on the brink of tumbling Gayle’s unique record.

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life I would have imagined that I will break Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny," Sharma said.

In addition, Rohit stressed that he is not a masculine personality like Gayle or any other pinch-hitter but still enjoys hitting the ball a long way.

“I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no," he added.

At some point in his conversation with the sports journalist, Rohit also recollected his early playing days when he was advised by his then-coaching staff to refrain from the big shots and adhere to a more orthodox style of batting.

"We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, coach used to throw us out from the game," the opener concluded.

Fast forward to today, Rohit has successfully adopted an aggressive batting style, which has helped him amass a lot of runs. Meanwhile, in the ongoing Asia Cup edition, the Indian skipper struggled against the Pakistani quicks in the opening game but later followed up with an impressive 74* against Nepal in the second match.
