Harbhajan Singh Lambasts Najam Sethi Over 'India Afraid to Play Pakistan' Remark

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took a swipe at the former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi over his controversial comments during the ongoing Asia Cup edition. The two cricketing icons were seen criticizing each other on social media regarding India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup tournament.

The current edition of the 2023 Asia Cup has been marred by several rain threats which ultimately led to the abandonment of the iconic India-Pakistan clash on September 2. Furthermore, more rain is predicted as we progress to the business end of the tournament which can seriously hamper the end results in the knockout fixtures. However, at this point in time, the tournament will proceed as per the current plan with the remaining matches expected to be played in Colombo.

As per Najam Sethi’s latest Twitter post, it was believed that BCCI and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) agreed to shift the remaining matches from Colombo to Hambantota because of rain forecasts. But the decision was quickly reversed an hour later without a formal explanation.

The late withdrawal from the BCCI did not sit well with Najam Sethi who retaliated by issuing the below-mentioned statement:

What’s going on? Is India afraid to play and lose to Pakistan Look at the rain forecast!"

Harbhajan Singh was quick to counter his remark and took a rather hilarious jibe at Najam Sethi.

“Don’t know what Najam Sethi is smoking nowadays. I don’t know how is he saying that they were the favourites or India does not want to play Pakistan," Harbhajan Singh said on Sports Today.

In addition, the former India off-spinner rubbished his baseless statement and stated firmly that Team India is never scared to play anyone in any venue. He further indicated that the historical records illustrating India's numerous triumphs over Pakistan in past encounters should be presented to counter such claims.
