Indian captain Rohit Sharma attended the residence of Sri Lankan cricket supporter Percy Abeysekera amidst the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The two discussed about the tournament, primarily regarding India’s upcoming Asia Cup 2023 Super Four clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Sharma attended Abeysekera’s residence upon the behest of another Sri Lankan cricket fan, Gayan Senanayake. The latter of the two even recorded the video of Sharma’s short interaction, which soon went viral across social media.
Rohit Sharma fulfils Sri Lankan fan request
Percy Abeysekera has remained one of the most prominent cricketing names associated with Sri Lanka since the 1980s. Now 86-year-old, the cricket enthusiast has been a constant presence in each of Sri Lanka’s home fixtures since then.
Abeysekera, fondly known as ‘Uncle Percy’, is even allowed inside the field by Sri Lankan cricket authorities to accompany the team after every game, regardless of the result while carrying their national flag.
Fellow Sri Lankan supporter Gayan Senanayake, who has met with Rohit Sharma before, invited the current Indian captain to Abeysekera’s house amidst the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. Senanayake can be seen recording the video, where Sharma was heard discussing India’s Super Four clash against Pakistan this Sunday, September 10.
Moreover, the opening batsman even asked Percy to turn up at the ground for India’s much-awaited Pakistan fixture.

In the meantime, Team India and Pakistan qualified for the Super Four following their emphatic wins over Nepal in the group stage of the tournament. The two titans also came into collision against each other in the opening round; however, the second half of the match was washed out owing to rains.
