Shoaib Malik is a renowned name in the world of cricket and his longevity and fitness at the age of 41 is something that has been admired from all corners. He is the only player in the world who debuted before the dawn of the 21st century and has still not retired from the game. The man is still available to play for Pakistan in T20Is and is still going strong in T20 leagues all over the world.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played next year in the Caribbean and USA and it would require a batter who has the ability to apply himself in the middle, given the tricky nature of pitches in the Caribbean in recent times. Shoaib Malik has been a regular part of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) over the years, and after the debacle of the 2023 World Cup, the 41-year-old veteran has once again expressed his desire to play another T20 World Cup for Pakistan.

Shoaib Malik in an event organized in Karachi to felicitate the 2009 T20 World Cup winning team, mentioned that he is available to play for Pakistan if he is given clarity about his role. However, he added that his main focus currently is to break Chris Gayle's record of most runs in T20s and he is playing the game because he is still enjoying it. Interestingly, Shoaib Malik last played for Pakistan in 2021 on the tour of Bangladesh just after the T20 World Cup 2021 in U.A.E.

This is what Shoaib Malik said -

"I'm still playing and if Pakistan want me in the 2024 World Cup, I want clarity. I want to break Chris Gayle's record of most runs in the T20s".

Shoaib Malik has 12688 runs in T20 cricket while Chris Gayle has 14562 runs, so it would be interesting to see how Shoaib Malik shapes up in the next couple of years with lot of franchise cricket and the all-important T20 World Cup coming up.
