It would be a special Sunday for Ishan Kishan in South Africa ahead of the first T20I in Durban as he would fondly recall etching himself in the history books on this very day a year back. The rising young wicketkeeper-batter produced a memorable double century in ODIs for India during the December 2022 trip to Bangladesh.

Kishan blasted his magnum opus effort of 210 off 131 deliveries against the Bangla Tigers in the third and final One-Dayer of the series in Chattogram. Opening the innings, the earnest cricketer from Jharkhand played a majestic knock and hammered the opposition attack to all parts of the ground.

Belting Bangladesh's finest-ever bowling attack, Kishan struck a whopping 24 fours and 10 maximums in the middle for India and recorded the eye-catching strike-rate of 160.30. It was the fastest ODI double century made in the history of the game.

When Ishan Kishan Produced Special Double Century

For the best part of his special 169-minute stint at the crease, Kishan unleashed his wrath on Bangla Tigers and expressed the Indian hurt upon conceding an unassailable lead in the three-match ODI series. The 25-year-old gave the ball a full monte and entered an extravagant celebration upon reaching the great landmark.

Kishan became only the fourth Indian batter at the time after legends Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma to script an ODI double ton. The esteemed list was joined a month later by Kishan's fellow young teammate and prodigious opening batter Shubman Gill.

The great innings didn't just help the side win but led to a critical shift in Indian cricket as selectors rewarded Kishan's promise and talent with a promotion in the hierarchy and bravely dropped veteran Shikhar Dhawan in preference of him as the backup opener for the 2023 World Cup.
