In the last 3-4 years, there has been a lot of shuffle in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp as the captaincy of the team has not been in the hands of one individual. Earlier, Dinesh Karthik was leading the team, and then he gave up the captaincy to Eoin Morgan, who couldn't take the team to the playoffs as well.

Just before the IPL 2023, Shreyas Iyer, who was bought by the KKR team in the mega auctions of the IPL 2022, got injured and was ruled out of the IPL 2023. KKR had to name a captain for the 2023 season, so Nitish Rana was appointed to lead the team. Now, that Iyer is back, Rana has revealed how he convinced the management to appoint him as the captain of the team.

He recently revealed that he went up to the coach and Venky Mysore and asked to make him the captain for the IPL 2023.

Here's what Nitish Rana said about how he stood up and asked for the leadership role:

"Unfortunately, Shreyas (Iyer) got injured. There were some problems for sure in the camp because it’s difficult to replace such a senior player. So, someone needed to step up. I went and spoke to coach Chandu Sir (Chandrakant Pandit), and CEO Venky Sir (Venky Mysore). I also spoke to Shah Rukh Sir (Shah Rukh Khan) that I am willing to take up the role. A lot of things were asked of me."

He also shared that, the team did not want him to have any extra pressure but he somehow convinced him and went on to lead the team.

"I was told that the team didn’t want me to experience unnecessary pressure. I told them just one thing, that I enjoy pressure a lot and I play cricket for only these things. So these are the things that went in my favour and I got the captaincy. And I am proud that I got a chance to lead such a franchise," he added.

Nitish Rana has been playing for KKR for the last three to four years and possesses leadership skills as well, considering he used to captain the Delhi team in the domestic tournaments.
