The semi-finals of the ongoing Indian domestic 50-over tournament Vijay Hazare trophy are currently underway, and the first round concluded yesterday at Rajkot.

The first semi-finals between Haryana and Tamil Nadu went on floors as the former won the coin-flip contest to bat first. Himanshu Rana’s 116 off 118 balls lifted Haryana’s total to 293, which seemed a par total on the tricky wicket of SCA stadium.

Subsequently, Tamil Nadu crumbled under pressure, losing three wickets inside 60 runs. The next batter in line was former KKR star Baba Indrajith. However, fans were perplexed as Baba made his way to the crease.

The middle-order batter’s mouth was heavily taped due to undisclosed reasons. What shook the fans most was that Indrajith was perfectly fine while fielding in the first innings.

Having said that, the Tami Nadu batter continued to bat despite visible discomfort. The medical team rushed for treatment several times to solidify the tapes, adding to the inconvenience.

Despite unprecedented challenges, Baba Indrajith stood tall and scored 64 runs off 71 deliveries before Anshul Kamboj claimed his wicket.

Later, the batter took to Instagram to clarify that he suffered an upper lip injury after slipping in the bathroom during the inning break. While the physios advised him to rest, he didn’t want to abandon his team during a crucial knockout game.

While Baba Indrajith’s grit and determination are commendable, his team didn’t do justice to his salient efforts. After Baba’s wicket, the rest of the pack crumbled under 50 runs.

With that, Haryana scripted history to secure its maiden Vijay Hazare finals berth. The second semi-final round is currently underway between Rajasthan and Karnataka. The latter has set up 282 runs batting first, leaving Rajasthan to chase it down to secure a place in the big finals.
