Virat Kohli has expressed his admiration for the Australian cricket team ahead of Team India’s hectic five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour ‘Down Under’ in November. The Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, is slated to play a series of five Test matches in Australia between November 22 and January 7.
Kohli hailed Australia’s competitiveness in Test cricket, and claimed that seeing their performance motivates him to elevate his game.
Virat Kohli hails Australia’s competitive mindset
In a video shared by the Star Sports Network on their social media channels, Virat Kohli claimed that each of the 11 Australian players on the field are often found on the same page owing to their shared competitive mindset. Moreover, the legendary Indian batter also added that he tends to get motivated by seeing Australia’s performance and skill set. He said:
“I think I can understand that mindset properly that they are so competitive that all the 11 players on the same page and they know what to do and when. Seeing this, my motivation increases as they are so aware and their skill set is so high that I have to elevate my game in order to defeat them.”
Virat Kohli captained Team India to its first-ever Test series win in Australia, doing so back during the 2018-19 tour of the country. The Indian team, marred by injuries, repeated the feat a couple of years later, albeit under the leadership of makeshift captain Ajinkya Rahane.
It remains to be seen if Team India can pull off yet another BGT series win in Australia this time around. That being said, India’s chances recently took a massive hit as they were just handed a rare series defeat at home by a Kane Williamson-less New Zealand. Moreover, senior paceman Mohammed Shami is yet to attain full recovery and has been opted out of the upcoming tour of Australia.
The Australian team, on the other hand, looks a much-settled unit under the captaincy of Pat Cummins. They are also the current holders of the WTC and will be aiming to secure number one spot on the 2023-25 points table after the home series against India.
The first Test of the five-match series between Australia and India will be hosted by the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 onwards.
