A well-constructed half-century from Sanju Samson and a four-wicket haul from Mukesh Kumar helped India to defeat Zimbabwe by 42 runs in the fifth and final T20I and thus finish off their tour on a high note with a 4-1 series win.

It was not a good start for captain Shubman Gill as India faced a surprising defeat in the first match of the series by 13 runs. But after that, India worked on their strategies and made better plans and defeated Zimbabwe in four consecutive matches to clinch the series. 

Shubman Gill Calls Rohit Sharma As His Inspiration

After the series win, captain Shubman Gill stated that he had taken inspiration from captaincy tips from Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. 

He also mentioned that recent T20 World Cup winner Rohit Sharma is also his inspiration and he has learned a lot from him regarding handling pressure conditions and situations. 

"You can take qualities from Rohit bhai or even Mahi bhai, Virat bhai, Hardik bhai, all of them," he said. "All of them have great qualities. I have played the most under Rohit bhai, so he is someone who I look up to and really enjoy playing under," Shubman Gill said. 

Speaking after the series triumph, Gill also did not shy away from accepting the fact that he had felt the pressure at the start of the series but initially, he was able to handle the pressure and the tour ended in their favour with satisfaction. 

Shubman Gill was not part of the T20 World Cup Squad and had to deal with this disappointment, he was included as a travelling reserve. 

Earlier this year, he faced a lot of criticism as he had a miserable season with Gujarat Titans as a captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
