Gill handed over the trophy to youngsters [X]
The rich tradition of handing over the trophy after winning a bilateral series continued as Shubman Gill upheld the Indian team tradition by allowing Dhruv Jurel, Tushar Deshpande, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma to lift the trophy after they won the series 4-1 against Zimbabwe on July 14.
India's second-string squad made an impressive comeback in the series after a shaky start. They lost the first match due to a lackluster batting performance but rebounded strongly to win the next four matches consecutively.
Gill's one of a kind gesture
At the presentation ceremony after the fifth match, Gill stepped aside to let the younger players experience the joy of lifting the trophy, a tradition which was started by former India captain, MS Dhoni.
Gill, who has shown promise as a leader, took over as captain of the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024. Although his IPL campaign didn't go as planned, his international captaincy debut has been impressive. His gesture of letting the youngsters take center stage has been widely praised, reflecting his maturity and team-first mentality.
Looking ahead, the Men in Blue are gearing up for their next challenge: a series against Sri Lanka, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is in July and August.
The BCCI is expected to announce the squads soon, with Rohit Sharma likely to continue as the ODI captain and Hardik Pandya resuming his role as the T20I captain.
