In a surprising turn of events, the former Indian cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin, has gone unsold in the ILT20 auction. The cricketer had a base price of USD 120,000, which was the highest in the auction, but unfortunately, he has not found a buyer.
Franchises ignore Ashwin's experience in ILT20 auction after Karthik, Chawla selection
However, the cricketer can still be bought later in the evening during round two, where unsold players will go under the hammer again. The 2025-26 season of the league will be its fourth one, and it is the first time they are conducting an auction.
Also, apart from Ravichandran Ashwin, the likes of Priyank Panchal, Siddarth Kaul, and Ankit Rajput have also registered for the auction. Dinesh Karthik has already been roped in by Sharjah Warriorz as a replacement player for Kusal Mendis, while Piyush Chawla has joined Abu Dhabi Knight Riders as a wildcard entry.
Ashwin's plans of dual role in ILT20 in jeopardy
As far as Ravichandran Ashwin is concerned, he has recently retired from IPL after leaving international cricket early in 2025. Since then, he has made it clear that he would play in different leagues across the world and recently signed for Sydney Thunder in the BBL.
The cricketer had a plan to play in the ILT20 in a dual role of a mentor and a player, given his vast experience. However, it seems that his high base price has not gone well with the franchises and as of now, they have decided to ignore the experienced Indian star.
Overall, Ashwin has played 333 T20s in his career, where he has picked 317 wickets at an average of 26.94. He is likely to bring his wealth of experience to the table if any franchises show interest in him in the second round, and can contribute with the bat too if needed.
