The Asia Cup 2025 is done and dusted, and after a disappointing loss in the finals against India, Pakistan cricket will turn its attention towards the upcoming Test series against the defending WTC champions, South Africa. The two-match Test series will be the first assignment for both Pakistan and South Africa in the new WTC cycle, and they’ll be eager to start with a victory.

Pakistan finished last in the WTC points table, 2023-2025, and the Shan Masood-led side will look to turn the tables against the Proteas side. The team for the Test series was announced on Tuesday, as the red-ball side geared up for the upcoming challenge.

Ahead of the series, Pakistan conducted a red-ball training camp, wherein all the players sweated it out hard.

Babar, Rizwan train hard for comeback ahead of Test series

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were snubbed from the Pakistan Asia Cup squad, citing a strike rate issue. However, the duo was picked in the Test team for the Proteas series, as they aim to make a strong comeback after a mini downfall in white-ball cricket.

In a video that went viral, the duo could be seen practising hard in nets, with specific preparation against the spinners. They worked on defensive shots as the pitch for the two-match Test series could assist the spinners.

Last chance for Babar to shine in Tests?

Post December 2022, Babar Azam has struggled for runs in Test cricket. His last Test ton came against the Kiwis at home, and in the last 2.5 years, he has not played a significant knock in Test cricket. In the last 3 years, he has averaged a mere 23.60, with just 590 runs in 13 Tests.

As a result, he was also dropped from the team midway through the Test series against England last year. Hence, another failure could potentially derail his red-ball career.
