Playing his second match of the World Cup 2023, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman made a starling comeback against Bangladesh after recovering from his injury as he played a marvelous 81-run knock of just 74 deliveries, helping his side earn a crucial victory.

Chasing 205 for the win, Pakistan had a brilliant start as they lost their first wicket on 128 but never really had a problem with that, considering they finished the game with more than 17 overs to spare and seven wickets remaining. Earlier, pacers Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr. picked up three wickets each to skittle the Tigers out for 204.

Post-game, Fakhar, who smashed seven sixes and three fours today, explained that his hard work paid dividends today, considering he has been practicing well for a long time, and it was just a matter of time before it came off.

"After the Asia Cup, I practiced a lot on my batting, I was looking good at the camp and was looking forward to making it to the team. Today, my hard work paid off after I was given a chance,"

Praising his partner Abdullah Shafique for his gritty 68-run knock, Zaman revealed that he was looking to set his eyes in for the first few overs before going for the big shots, hence making batting easier for his teammate.

"I told Abdullah that I will see off the first few overs, I knew I could hit big sixes. My role is to make it easy for my partner, so it was important to see off the first few overs and then play my shots,"

Further, he talked about the team's strategy of finishing the game around the 30-over mark considering the NRR, which is negative as of now. Also, the left-hander spoke about upcoming matches, where his plan would be to ensure that he contributes in fine fashion and plays better innings like this one.

"NRR was in our mind after we reached 100, the aim was to finish it off in 30 overs. I had too many failures, I was looking towards such a knock and hopefully I'll make bigger scores in the next few games."

Pakistan finally earned a victory after four consecutive losses, and will now want to win their upcoming game against New Zealand on November 4 in Bengaluru to stay in the race for the semi-finals.
