England again proved to be the bogey team for Sri Lanka as they were outclassed in all departments in the World Cup 2023 game played in Bengaluru, thanks to an all-round effort, first with the ball and then bat to chase the score of 156 down in 26 overs.

Skipper Kusal Mendis, who was handed the captaincy duties after injury to Dasun Shanaka, spoke after his side won the second consecutive game of the tournament. Mentioning the qualification scenario, he explained that they aim to seal the next three out of four games, which would open doors for their journey to the semi-finals.

"NRR going up is good for the team. We bowled very well today. Everyone did really well today. Another 4 games left. If we win 3 games back to back, we'll be in the semis. Players did well last match also. Hope we can do well next couple of matches."

Adding to it, Mendis praised the pacer Lahiru Kumara for his brilliant effort as he picked up a three-wicket haul while bowling at a speed above 140 consistently. Then, stated that senior player Angelo Mathews, who replaced Matheesha Pathirana in the side, has a very crucial role to play in the upcoming games.

"Kumara did well today. He's the main fast bowler in Sri Lanka. Bowled 140-145 speeds. Very happy that he came back strong today. Mathews bowled really well. He offers so many things. Can bat also. Can play the pressure situation also. I'm very lucky to be playing with him. Fielding was excellent today. Want to keep doing the same in the next 4 matches."

Sri Lanka will now face Afghanistan in Pune on 30th October, which will again be a significant encounter for them.
