'More Than A Big Brother' - Rinku Singh Lavishes Huge Praise On Suresh Raina

Rinku Singh, the promising Indian cricketer, rose to fame after a splendid display of firepower during the 2023 IPL season. He slammed five sixes in an over to guide KKR to a convincing win over GT. 

Rinku Singh’s career was never the same again. He knocked on the selection committee’s doors by scoring consistently in the domestic circuit. Fortunately, Rinku got his due in the ongoing T20 series bilateral series against Australia.

The power hitter wasted no time and left his mark in the first game itself. Rinku hit a six to seal a last-ball thriller victory over the Aussies and has been receiving immense admiration since then.

During an interview with TOI, Rinku Singh revealed how former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina stood by him in his lowest phase. The batter had a relatively difficult journey due to unconventional beginnings. But he beat all odds to emerge victorious. 

Meanwhile, Suresh Raina mentored Rinku throughout the early stages of his cricket career. He says, as a fan, he was intrigued by Raina’s shot selections and thus tried to emulate the same. 

But besides being a mentor on the field, Raina went out of his way to help the budding cricketer. Rinku Singh revealed that the former cricketer arranged cricket equipment for him because he couldn’t afford it. His gestures were out of goodwill, as Rinku never asked for help up front. 

 "I'm a huge fan of Suresh Raina bhaiya. I follow and copy him, he's played a big role in my life and career. He helped me with cricket equipment even without asking when I needed it. He's more than a big brother," Rinku said.

Rinku Singh’s journey was extremely challenging. He lived in a small apartment with minimal basic amenities and worked odd jobs to make ends meet. While he was advised to take up labor jobs to sustain a living, Rinku risked everything to pursue his passion for cricket.

Thankfully, his hard work was rewarded, as Rinku Singh’s life changed for the better after IPL success. He still has a long way to go, as Singh has the potential to become a finisher for the Indian senior team in the future.
