Indian opener Prithvi Shaw, who’s had a season filled with setbacks and disappointments in recent times, remains determined. The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) proved to be a testing ground for the Delhi Capitals player, as he struggled to find his form, scoring a mere 106 runs in eight matches.

I can't bat like Pujara sir, he can't bat like me: Prithvi Shaw

Relentlessly backed by Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, who had expressed high hopes for Shaw's performance, the outcome was far from what was anticipated. The prodigious opener had a disastrous time as he experienced his most challenging season in the history of the IPL.

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Shaw reflected on the initial matches of IPL 2023, acknowledging that they swiftly passed by him, leaving a lasting impression.

However, he emphasized that he has gained valuable insights from those setbacks and has learned his lesson.

“Those few innings went in a flash. I kept thinking about the first match, I quickly realised three matches had passed," said Shaw.

Reflecting on his turbulent journey, Shaw acknowledged the transient nature of his struggles, realising that dwelling on past performances would only hinder his progress.

He emphasised the significance of the upcoming opportunities and the importance of focusing on the next game.

“The learning was once the match is done, just leave it there. You can’t do anything about it, it’s history. You have to keep moving forward,” added the 23-year-old batter.

While also acknowledging the need for self-reflection and adaptation, Shaw remained committed to his own unique style of play irrespective of the format.

Unmoved by the challenges faced during the IPL 2023, he firmly believes in sticking to the methods that have brought him success thus far.

The Mumbai-based cricketer acknowledged the individuality of his batting approach, drawing a comparison to the Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara.

“I feel whatever has brought me till here, I will stick to that method, be the same. If I change right now for something, for example, I can’t bat like Pujara sir. He can’t bat like me. I just try to do what has brought me here, like this aggressive batting. I don’t like to change that, be it T20 or any format," concluded Shaw.
