Michael Vaughan Lambasts Under-Fire Delhi Capitals Opener Prithvi Shaw for Another Failure

Delhi Capitals finally managed to register their opening IPL 2023 points by upstaging the Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 28 of the tournament. The win came after David Warner’s fiery 57 at the top, and Axar Patel’s calculated finisher that took them past the finishing line in the final over.

However, Prithvi Shaw’s batting form continues to remain a worry for the team management as the opener failed yet again this season. The cricketer returned with a confident-looking 13 before being castled by KKR’s enigma machine Varun Chakravarthy.

Michael Vaughan drops message for Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has gathered just 47 runs in six matches this IPL 2023 season, at a measly average of 7.83. In his side’s emphatic win over the KKR, the right-hander looked good in the powerplay before an attempted cut shot became his undoing.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his disappointment over Shaw’s extensive dry run with the bat. He claimed that the match against KKR was a great opportunity for the youngster to return to form because of the low target his side was chasing. While speaking on Cricbuzz said:

“It is a target that won’t intimidate you as a batter; you are not looking at 190s. There is no real pressure in terms of the scoring rate. I think he comes out plays the way he has done in the past, but he needs to be there at the end of the sixth. He has to see his team home and get 60-70 not out.”

Vaughan also added that it was about time that Shaw lived up to his reputation by notching up a big innings for his side in the tournament.

“He needs some runs. He can’t keep going on reputation. He can’t keep going with what is done in the past. He needs to produce the runs here and now. He has got a poor start. He has not gotten out of Powerplay with the bat in hand yet.”

If the Delhi Capitals management continues to persist with Shaw, the youngster will now be seen in his side’s next assignment, an away fixture against SRH. The match will be played on April 24.
