As per emerging reports, young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw is all set to represent Northamptonshire in the English domestic tournaments- County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup- of the ongoing season. Although the club is yet to release an official statement on the matter, Shaw will likely depart for the UK to participate in the aforementioned competitions after the conclusion of the ongoing Duleep Trophy.

As a reliable source told TOI, Shaw will represent West Zone in their Duleep Trophy semifinal encounter against Central Zone on the 5th of this month. If West Zone qualifies for the final, the swashbuckling opener will stay in India for the ultimate game before joining the Northants for the remainder of the English summer.

Here's what the source revealed

"Prithvi will be playing in four-day County Championship matches and in the Royal London One-Day Cup (50 overs tournament). Before that, he will play in the Duleep Trophy semi-final and if necessary, in the final."

Shaw's international career has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. After making it into the Indian Test side at the tender age of 18, the stylish Mumbai batter made his mark instantly, notching up his maiden Test ton in his first game against West Indies.

However, the Australian bowlers exploited his technical shortcomings on the 2020-21 tour, after which he lost his place in the national side.

Besides his on-field performance, some off-field controversies, including his verbal spat with social media influencer Sapna Gill, didn't help his cause, as he has been toiling in domestics to prove his worth since then.

Thus, the County stint holds paramount importance for Shaw, who would like to capitalise on it to make his much-awaited international return.
