Day 2 at Headingley is turning up the heat as the Indian batters are mounting pressure on the English bowlers. Coming to bat as the number 5 batter, Rishabh Pant added more spark to the innings with a dazzling ton, pushing the side to a stronger total.

Dinesh Karthik Hits Out At Gambhir Over Mid-Innings Message
As day 2 resumed, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant gave a great start. Continuing his sublime form, Pant scored an exceptional ton. He was carrying on Team India’s innings until the coach sent a message in the middle of the innings. Only after that, Pant fell for a brain fade LBW in the second delivery of the 108th over.
After Pant’s dismissal, Team India lost crucial wickets consecutively. But the wicketkeeper-batter’s dismissal didn’t sit well with Dinesh Karthik. Speaking on Sky Sports, as reported by Hindustan Times, Karthik blamed head coach Gautam Gambhir’s mid-innings message for disrupting Pant’s rhythm and triggering his downfall.
“Also very interesting, when a message was sent out to Rishabh Pant, it curbed his style of play. He was just very carefree with his stroke making, and yet the feeling that a message was sent to tell him to calm down doesn't work for certain players, I guess,” he said.
“As a coach, it's completely understandable when you want to get a message across to the batter. But over time, you realise, for certain players, how you send that message becomes very important, what is the tone, what is the language used that gets the best out of the batter,” Karthik added.

Stepping into a new Test era, India couldn’t have asked for a better beginning. Starting the clash with a thrilling 91-run partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a great start. Though Rahul missed his half-century, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant’s classic tons paved the way for Team India to put on a challenging total.
After Pant’s dismissal, Team India’s lineup struggled as they lost 7 wickets in 41 runs. Coming to the game later in the game, England skipper Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue secured 4-wicket hauls each. With those efforts, they restricted Team India to 471 runs.
