After wrapping up the ODI series, West Indies Women are set to lock horns in the upcoming three-match T20 series against South Africa Women on June 20. After a heavy defeat in the ODI series, the Caribbean women are aiming for a stronger bounce-back.
Just before the series kicked off, West Indies faced a big shake-up. Stafanie Taylor has been ruled out, paving the way for Shawnisha Hector’s T20 call-up.
Taylor Misses Out On The T20 Series
After a horrible defeat in the three-match ODI series against South Africa women, the West Indies Women are gearing up for the upcoming T20I series, aiming for a grand comeback. Just before stepping into the series, the side suffered a big blow.
In the third ODI match against South Africa Women, Stafanie Taylor sustained an unfortunate shoulder injury and didn’t bat later in the game. Due to that, the mighty all-rounder, known for her exceptional power-hitting, has been ruled out from the upcoming T20I series.
In the last ODI series, she scored 47 runs in 2 matches. In the first match, her unbeaten 30-run innings played a crucial role in securing the West Indies Women’s victory. Apart from her absence, the rest of the squad remains unchanged.
Shawnisha Hector’s Maiden T20I Call Up
In Taylor’s absence, Shawnisha Hector has earned her maiden T20I call-up. After making her debut in the 50-over format in 2019 as the first ever woman from Antigua, she is standing into another iconic moment of her career. As the team is seeking redemption, the bowler can be a great weapon for the side.
The action begins on June 20 as the iconic 3Ws Oval sets the stage for the series opener. On June 22 and 23, the second and third T20I matches will take place at the same venue.
