Former England batter Mark Butcher has given his brutal take on the listless bowling performance of seasoned Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the recently-concluded Headingley Test. Having bowled 47 overs across both innings of the match, Jadeja conceded 172 runs and managed to pick up just a solitary wicket, that of Ben Stokes on Day 5.

Butcher believes that Jadeja consistently failed to land the ball in the rough areas, and the former cricketer also criticized Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for failing to advice the spinner.

Mark Butcher Slams Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant

Former England cricketer Mark Butcher has claimed that he was left baffled by Ravindra Jadeja’s listless bowling performance for India at Headingley against England. While talking on the Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast and as quoted by India Today, Butcher said:

“I could not believe how poorly he bowled, really. I'd likened it to owning a hammer but punching nails in with your fist instead – not landing the ball in the rough at all until, basically, it was too late. That was extraordinary, really.”

Butcher Questions Jadeja's Experience

Mark Butcher also criticised Rishabh Pant for not advising Ravindra Jadeja to land the ball in the rough areas against left-handers. He added:

“You talk about experience, and he has all the experience in the world. Somehow, it didn't seem to click to him or Rishabh Pant, the keeper, that it might be a good idea not to keep missing the rough all day to the left-handers.”

Ravindra Jadeja, along with the rest of his Indian teammates, are currently in Birmingham for the second Test of the five-match series against England. The match will be hosted by Edgbaston from July 2 onwards as India now trail 0-1. in the five-match Test series.
