Rishabh Pant brought laughter to the field with his trademark wit behind the stumps during Day 2 of the Headingley Test in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. As the stump mic caught several of his cheeky one-liners, one particular exchange with spinner Ravindra Jadeja has gone viral on social media, delighting fans with the lighter side of the intense Test battle.
Pant’s Banter Lights Up Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test
In a video shared by Star Sports on X (formerly Twitter), Pant can be heard reacting to an outside delivery from Jadeja, which spun wide down the leg side while England opener Ben Duckett was on strike. Pant, who had to dive to his right to collect the ball, turned to Jadeja with a mock complaint:
“Mai bhi khel raha hu bhai, apne chauke ke chakkar mein mera chaukka mat dedena.” (“I’m also playing, brother. In trying to stop a four, don’t concede my four.”)
Pant was referring to 'byes', runs that are not credited to the bowler but count against the wicketkeeper when the ball goes past the batter without contact.
The humorous exchange is yet another example of Rishabh Pant’s refreshing presence behind the stumps. Pant plays the dual role of wicketkeeper as well as entertainer. His stump mic moments often lifts the mood of the team.
Adding to the lively on-field chatter was India’s new captain, Shubman Gill, who was also caught offering tactical observations. After a tight delivery from Jadeja that Duckett defended back, Gill turned to his bowler and said:
“Abhi ye pura confused hai Jaddu bhai, kaunsi seedhi hai aur kaunsi udhar. Aayega iska!” (“He’s totally confused now, Jaddu brother — he doesn’t know which one will turn. His wicket is coming!”)
India's Dominant Performance
Despite India posting a formidable 471/10 in their first innings with significant contributions by Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant (147). England ended the day on a strong note at 209/3, with Ollie Pope anchoring the innings on an unbeaten 100. Bumrah stood out as India’s only wicket-taker on the day, claiming three wickets amid a disciplined yet challenging English response.
