KL Rahul notched up his 11th Test century against West Indies on Day 2 of the series-opening first Test at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Resuming his innings at 53* on the second morning, the elegant Indian opener composed 100 runs off 197 balls with 12 regal boundaries before getting deceived by West Indies off-spinner Jomel Warrican.

Nonetheless, Rahul's batting masterclass in Ahmedabad also sustained his purple patch with the bat, especially considering the cricketer also racked up runs in heaps in the five-match series in England a couple of months ago.

Mohammad Kaif trolls KL Rahul critics

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has lauded KL Rahul’s resilience after the latter scored his third Test century of the year through his 100-run knock against West Indies on Day 2 of the Ahmedabad Test.

Taking to his X account, Kaif also took a dig at Rahul's critics, pointing out how the same people, who once lambasted him for inconsistency and a modest career average, are now hailing his brilliance.

There was a time when people used to criticise KL Rahul for throwing away his starts. Now that he has been performing admirably, the same section of fans has turned into his admirers, praising the Indian batter for his consistency.

Kaif underlined that KL Rahul's strength lies in his self-belief and hard work, describing them as qualities that enabled him to silence all his doubters and naysayers.

Mohammad Kaif wrote:

“How opinions change after scoring in few innings. Now his critics say there is no one like him. Remember: KL Rahul strength is his belief and hard work. That's what makes him rise after every fall and perform despite the pressure.”

KL Rahul also piled up 532 runs across 10 innings of the five-match Test series in England at a prolific batting average of 53.20. The cricketer scored two tons and two half-centuries in the series as Team India levelled the five-match rubber 2-2.

KL Rahul's latest innings against West Indies helped India gain a sizeable lead over the visitors without breaking a sweat on Day 2. By Tea break in the second afternoon, the Indian team reached 326-4 with unbeaten Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja both batting on half-centuries.
