Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently reflected on the latest press release by the BCCI as they announced the central contracts for the Indian team players. While analysing the list of players being awarded the central contract by the board, Chopra was shocked to see the omission of India’s popular wrist spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Yuzvendra Chahal has previously been a match-winner for the Indian team and has single-handedly dominated the opponents on multiple occasions. However, due to poor form over the recent past and not getting many opportunities to play, Chahal was ultimately dropped by the BCCI from the central contract list.

Yuzvendra Chahal saw an exclusion of his name from the list alongside prominent cricketers like Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav and Cheteshwar Pujara and youngsters like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra analysed the BCCI Central contract list and discussed that Chahal’s snub from the contract list is surprising. He also highlighted that the omission is an indication that the board and the team management are looking beyond Yuzvendra Chahal.

Aakash Chopra said,

“I am a bit surprised that Yuzi Chahal’s name is not there. Cheteshwar Pujara, Akinkya Rahane, and Shikhar Dhawan - their names not being there, I can understand. Even Deepak Hooda for that matter. But Chahal’s name is not being there - what does that signify? It seems to indicate that they [BCCI] are looking in a different direction. This is a validation of the theory. He might have had a ray of hope, but it wasn’t to be. His name is not there.”
