Despite persistent accusations of forging a rift with the modern-day legend, Gautam Gambhir continues to shower Virat Kohli with great praise as the former India opener lauded him for his longevity and consistency after an epic run during the ICC World Cup 2023

The veteran ex-cricketer lavished a massive compliment on Kohli's remarkable body of work across formats as a bona fide great of the game and lauded him for his amazing impact on Indian cricket over the years as a former captain and player.

Speaking to the press, Gambhir hailed Kohli's defining campaign with the bat during the quadrennial event on Indian shores in October-November and congratulated him for finishing as the 'Player of the Tournament' for his unprecedented 765 runs in just 11 innings.

Gambhir Praises Kohli After Memorable World Cup

Kohli played his role of an anchor to perfection during India's excellent run to the final of the marquee competition, scoring hundreds versus Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand. The third of the trio of centuries helped the 35-year-old surpass his idol Sachin Tendulkar's tally of ODI centuries.

"The Impact that Virat Kohli has had in all three formats is incredible. His longevity and consistency with which he has scored in all three formats is commendable," Gambhir said.

It was the most emotional of all milestones for Kohli since it came in Tendulkar's own den - the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai - with the maestro present in person in the stands and applauding him while the batter himself still bowed to his inspiration in front of a packed crowd.

With it, Kohli became the highest-ever ODI centurion with an unmatched tally of 50 hundred in his favourite format. While Tendulkar recorded his 49 centuries in ODIs over 463 matches in another era, Kohli edged past the figure in just 292 games.

Kohli also inched ahead of Tendulkar's 673 runs during the 2003 edition and now holds the tag of the highest-ever run-maker at a single men's World Cup.
