Shreyas Iyer's captaincy was one of the hottest talking points in IPL 2025. His charismatic leadership took Punjab Kings to the final of the IPL 2025 after 11 long years. Interestingly, in 2024, he took KKR to the title win as captain, but was not retained by the franchise.
However, almost every cricketer who has played under Shreyas Iyer has praised his leadership skills. Now, Harshit Rana has also shared his thoughts on Iyer's captaincy. It was under Shreyas' leadership that Harshit Rana made his name and turned out to be a match-winning bowler for KKR.
Harshit Rana Credits Shreyas Iyer For Motivating Him In IPL 2024
The right-arm pacer has now played across formats for India and has grown in stature. Now, in a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, the speedster stated how Shreyas Iyer helped him in IPL 2024. He revealed that even before the start of the season, Shreyas told him that he is KKR's main bowler this season and he would be key for the franchise.
Harshit then recalled the final over of the opening game against SRH. The Orange army needed 13 in the last over, and young Harshit Rana was handed the ball. The pacer revealed in the podcast that he was not supposed to bowl that over, but Shreyas Iyer came to him and told him that it was time for him to become a hero. The then-KKR captain also added that it doesn't matter if they lose, which gave Harshit Rana the confidence, and they eventually won the game.
"Mai as a bowler batata hu. Jab mai pichle IPL unke saath tha. Starting me he unhone mujhe confidence diya, ke tu hai mera main, aur tune he karna hai sab kuch. Mai daalne nahi wala tha last over. Unhone mujhe ball di, aur bola, yeh le tera time hai. Ya toh hero ban jaa, agar nahi bhi jeetenge toh mujhe koi faraq nahi padta," Harshit Rana said in TRS Podcast.
Harshit Rana's words show how Shreyas Iyer provides confidence to his players, which eventually brings out the best in them. Shreyas Iyer has been a succesful IPL captain for every team he has led so far and would be looking to take Punjab Kings to their first IPL title in 2026.
