The Lord’s Test between India and England has reached an exciting stage, with India chasing 193 runs for victory. As the match heads into its final day, many fans are wondering: Will Shoaib Bashir bowl during this crucial run chase? England’s batting coach, Marcus Trescothick, has provided an important update.
Shoaib Bashir Injured While Trying To Catch Ravindra Jadeja
On Day 3 of the Test match at Lord’s, Shoaib Bashir injured his left hand while trying to take a tough catch off his own bowling. It happened during the 78th over of India’s first innings, when Ravindra Jadeja struck a powerful drive that hit Bashir’s little finger. The injury looked painful, and Bashir had to walk off the field for medical treatment. Joe Root completed the over in his absence.
After the injury, Bashir did not return to bowl on Day 3. On Day 4, he showed signs of recovery by walking out to bat in England’s second innings, where he scored 2 runs off 9 balls. However, when England bowled 17.4 overs in India’s second innings later that day, Bashir was not brought into the attack.
This raised concerns about whether the off-spinner would be available for the final day, especially with India needing 135 more runs to win and six wickets in hand.
England Coach Gives Big Update On Bashir
In the latest development, Marcus Trescothick has given a positive update. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the England batting coach confirmed that Shoaib Bashir is fit to bowl on Day 5 and will be used “when needed.”
"He's fit to bowl, was ready to ball. I think it comes in the regulation - he can come on to bowl as and when he's needed, and then if he's not bowling at any stage, he can then come back off because it's obviously an external blow. So, should we need him, he will be ready to bowl," Trescothick said.
Before India’s chase, Washington Sundar turned the match in India’s favour with a brilliant four-wicket haul, helping bowl out England for 192. However, India’s top order struggled in the tricky conditions and ended Day 4 at 58 for 4, needing 135 more runs to win.
The pitch is getting tougher to bat on, and England will be hoping to take quick wickets early on Day 5. Bashir’s presence adds another dimension to their attack.
With six wickets in hand, India still have a strong chance to chase down the remaining 135 runs. But for England, every run and every ball matters. If India wins, it will be their fourth Test victory at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
