The highly anticipated first Youth Test between India Under-19 and England Under-19 of the ongoing series kicked off at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham on July 12, with India looking to continue their winning momentum after a dominant performance in the five-match ODI series.
Clearly, all eyes were on the 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the young batting prodigy who had lit up the ODI series and IPL with his fearless strokeplay.
After India opted to bat first, Suryavanshi didn’t disappoint at first, smashing three boundaries in the opening over and giving India a fiery start.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Falls for Low Score Against England U19
It was expected that the fireworks would continue, but the excitement was short-lived. Suryavanshi fell in just the third over, trying to go big once again. He attempted a cut shot on a short and wide delivery but ended up hitting it straight to the fielder in the deep. He walked back for just 14 runs, a rare low score for someone who’s been in red-hot form.
India were 17/1 after four overs, with captain Ayush Mhatre and Vihan Malhotra left to rebuild the innings.
Despite this setback, there’s no questioning Suryavanshi’s talent. In the recent ODI series, the youngster was India’s top run-scorer with a whopping 355 runs across five matches, including a blistering century (143) and consistent knocks like 86, 48, and 45. His fearless approach and maturity at such a young age have already earned him comparisons with some of the best in the game.
Still only 14, the IPL breakout star is expected to bounce back. This Youth Test is just the beginning of a long series, and fans are hopeful of seeing more magic from his bat soon.
For now, India U19 will look to carry on the fight with Ayush Mhatre and others stepping up.
