Mohammed Shami has not been at his very best after the injury that sidelined him from cricket for a very long time. While the veteran returned for Champions Trophy 2025 and packed some heat with his 9 wickets off 5 matches, his IPL season has been disappointing so far.
Another point of concern for Shami's lack of form is the upcoming England tour where Shami's selection hinges on his overall fitness and ability to do long spells on the field. Ahead of the selection, the bowler opened up about his condition.
Shami Gives Insights Into His Fitness
Speaking to Times Of India in an exclusive interview, Shami gave a major update on his fitness status. The pacer stressed the fact that he has to increase his workload for Test matches.
"I'm trying my best, doing hard work, performing strength exercises, attending practice sessions regularly, delivering maximum numbers of balls in the nets and managing my workload as much as possible. Red ball ke liye workload badhana padega (for red-ball cricket, the workload needs to be increased). The series is right after the IPL. There's also an India 'A' series. So, it is hectic for everybody," Shami said, as quoted by TOI.
As Shami shared, the England series right after IPL might stress him out and every other bowler as well, and it highlights the concern for Mohammed Shami's selection for the tour too.
Shami On His IPL Performance
Speaking on his sub-par IPL season, Shami owned his performance calling it unsatisfactory. However, he also assured of giving his best in any format.
"No, I am not satisfied. I couldn't deliver what I wanted to. I didn't meet expectations. But still, I feel I can give my best in any format, any time if given the opportunity," Shami added.
Shami didn't have a great IPL season at all. In his 9 matches, the pacer managed to get 6 wickets at an expensive economy rate of 11.23. Significantly, his best figures of the tournament were 2-28 which came against Gujarat Titans.
