Indian women’s cricket star Deepti Sharma, currently deputy superintendent of police in Uttar Pradesh, has filed a criminal complaint against fellow state cricketer Arushi Goel, alleging fraud of over ₹25 lakh and theft of valuables from her Agra apartment.

The 28-year-old allrounder, who captains UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), claims Goel exploited their professional relationship over two years, citing fabricated family emergencies to extract funds before allegedly breaking into her flat on April 22.

Deepti Sharma Alleges ₹25 Lakh Fraud & Theft

According to the FIR filed by Deepti’s brother Sumit Sharma at Agra’s Sadar police station, Goel, a 27-year-old Railways employee, UP Warriorz player and UP domestic teammate, swapped the apartment’s locks and stole gold/silver jewellery along with ₹2 lakh in foreign currency.

The complaint states Deepti Sharma discovered the theft when Sumit found the lock changed during a routine check. Police have invoked BNS sections 305(a) (theft), 331(3) (housebreaking), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), and 352 (provoking breach of peace) after preliminary investigations found merit in the allegations.

Deepti & Arushi's Cricketing Ties Led To Extortion

The two cricketers, who shared the UP Warriorz dressing room domestically, grew close professionally before relations soured. The FIR claims Goel and her parents “financially exploited” Deepti, who reportedly transferred funds repeatedly to address their purported crises.

“When confronted, Arushi refused to repay the amount,” Sumit’s complaint reads. Agra Sadar ACP Sukanya Sharma confirmed the case, noting Deepti’s preoccupation with national team preparations for the England tour complicated her direct involvement. Notably, Arushi Goel declined to comment on the allegations.
