After a historic win at Edgbaston, Team India failed to carry on the momentum at the Lord's as they faced a horrific defeat of 22 runs. Their batting order faltered under pressure and that led the way to defeat.
The heartbreaking loss stirred plenty of debate, with former England pacer Steve Harmison weighing in. Reflecting on this, he said that Kohli's presence on the side could write a different story at the Lord’s.
Harmison Believes Kohli Could Have Changed The Lord’s Story
As the Indian fans were all geared up for the Lord’s Test, the match ended up on a disappointing note as Team India faced a 22-run defeat at the ‘Home of Cricket’. In front of England’s lethal bowling attack, Team India’s batting lineup crumbled as they failed to chase down the total of 193 runs in the fourth innings.
After the heartbreaking defeat, criticism poured in all the way, but former English bowler Steve Harmison stated something different. As Virat Kohli is known for his chasing brilliance, Harmison believes his presence could have changed the result at Lord’s. Speaking to ESPN Match Day, as quoted by India Today, he also urged the visitors to keep faith in themselves.
“India has scored more hundreds, more top-order runs, and more new ball wickets, but England has got a knack of finding a way to win. Finding a way of creating an event throughout a session to change the course of the game,” he said.
“For me, India has to start believing. This is where the likes of Virat Kohli were unbelievable. In a fourth innings chase, he goes and wins the game comfortably. He would have won that game comfortably at Lord's,” he added.
After the defeat at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, Team India’s woes deepened as they are now trailing behind by a 1-2 margin. With the next Test at Old Trafford, where history hasn’t been kind to them, Shubman Gill and Co. now have their sights set on rewriting the script.
