India's out-of-favour batter Shreyas Iyer continues to remain in the news despite finding himself away from cricket.

Iyer, who opted to sit out of Mumbai's upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024 Quarterfinals due to an injury, has now been confirmed as fit by National Cricket Academy (NCA) head of sports science and medicine Nitin Patel as 'fit' in an email to selectors.

As reported by Indian Express, Patel stated in his email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that Iyer is fit and available for selection, and did not incur any fresh injuries after the 2nd Test versus England

“Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”

Team India selectors, after consultation with BCCI medical staff, urged Iyer to feature in the Ranji Trophy, gain back his form, and regain match fitness. The 29-year-old failed to impress in the ongoing five-Test England series, slamming scores of 35, 13, 27, and 39 in the first two encounters, which led to the exclusion of the batter from the remainder of the series.

Interestingly, Iyer has been troubled with back issues, which saw the stylishly played miss the Indian Premier League 2023, and also the first-half of last year for India, before making a comeback in the Asia Cup.
