Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Chris Gayle has the opinion that the legendary MS Dhoni might opt not to play every match in this year's IPL.

Gayle suggested that Dhoni is likely to take a break midway through the tournament, which could explain why he passed the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the season began.

Since Dhoni decided to play under Gaikwad's leadership, speculation has arisen regarding how many matches he will participate in as a player in IPL 2024.

Gayle has added fuel to these speculations by indicating that CSK fans might not see their beloved 'Thala' on the field in every game. However, he believes that promoting Gaikwad as CSK captain was a strategic move, and he trusts Dhoni to handle his role effectively this year.

The Universe Boss made these comments ahead of the IPL 2024 season opener between CSK and RCB in Chennai on Friday night.

He shared his insights during an interview with Jio Cinema, stating,

"He (MS Dhoni) might not play all games. There may be a little break in between for him. That's why the decision. But MSD will go well, don't worry about that."

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK secured victory in their first game, defeating RCB by six wickets. If there were any doubts about Dhoni's fitness, those were dispelled on Friday.

The former CSK skipper displayed swift movement behind the stumps, efficiently gathering the ball and making minimal errors. He also executed a crucial run-out of Anuj Rawat in the final ball of the RCB innings.

Dhoni's services with the bat was not required, as Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube sealed the game in the 19th over, giving CSK an ideal start to the tournament.
