On Sunday, inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals will kickstart their IPL 2024 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Led by Sanju Samson, the Royals had a roller-coaster ride in the IPL last season, occupying fifth place in the standings with seven wins.

Although they had a dream start to the tournament, their inconsistency significantly affected their journey, eventually resulting in their group-stage exit from the competition. Cometh the new season, the Royals would be desperate to turn things around and clinch their second IPL title after a long trophy drought.

So, as they gear up for a fascinating battle against the Super Giants, let's see what their playing XI could be for this match.

Rajasthan Royals' probable playing XI vs LSG

Like the previous year, the Royals' top order will be their biggest strength this time, with the dynamic Yashasvi Jaiswal set to open the batting alongside the swashbuckling Jos Buttler. The opening duo holds significant importance for RR and is expected to provide them with a rollicking start.

As RR have traded Devdutt Padikkal to LSG, skipper Sanju Samson will bat at his preferred number three position, where he has amassed 2504 runs at an average of 36.82 and a strike rate of 141.71.

Promising Indian player Riyan Parag, who is coming off a stellar domestic season, will bat in the middle order alongside the explosive trio of Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel. As we have seen in the past, RR will likely use Hetmyer and Jurel as their finishers, a tactic that worked for them last season.

The Royals' bowling unit will likely comprise Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal alongside Avesh Khan, who offers a hit-the-deck bowling option. If RR bat first, veteran seamer Sandeep Sharma might come in as the impact substitute during the second half.

On the contrary, if they bowl first, Sandeep will replace Jurel in the playing XI, with the latter coming in as the impact player during run-chase.
