Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal following his impressive batting performance on the first day of the ongoing Test match against West Indies in Dominica.

Jaiswal, who received his maiden Test cap, opened the innings with Rohit Sharma and faced a disciplined new-ball attack comprising Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph. However, both managed to break free and launch a counter-attack, allowing India to surpass the 60-run mark by the 14th over. Both batters remained unbeaten at stumps on day 1, with Jaiswal scoring 40* off 73 and Rohit contributing 30* off 65 balls.

While talking to OneCricket's correspondent, Ashwin expressed his admiration for Jaiswal, highlighting the batter's stroke play as a massive positive. Ashwin described the Mumbai lad as a vibrant player and hoped for his continued success. He also emphasised the team's commitment to maintaining a positive environment for Jaiswal's growth.

Here's how R Ashwin praised Yashasvi Jaiswal

"He just reverse swept the first ball of the last over! That's what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant, hope he goes far. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him."

Ashwin showcased his talent as the top-ranked bowler in the ICC Test rankings, taking five wickets for 60 runs in 24.3 overs. He played a crucial role in decimating the West Indies batting lineup, restricting them to a meagre total of 150 runs in 64.3 overs.

Reflecting on his own bowling, the wily craftsman described it as a good performance, acknowledging the initial moisture on the pitch for favouring him.

"Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions," added the legendary tweaker.

India currently hold a dominant position in the first Test against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. After opting to bat, the hosts faced a tough challenge and were eventually dismissed for a mere 150 runs in the final session.

On the other hand, India concluded the day's play with a clinical performance, reaching an impressive score of 80 without losing any wickets.
