Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved yet another milestone as he completed 700 international wickets in his career. He became the third Indian to reach the 700 wickets mark in international cricket after Anil Kumble (953) and Harbhajan Singh (707).

Ashwin reached the mark when he dismissed Alzarri Joseph on Day 1 of the ongoing First Test between West Indies and India at Windsor Park in Dominica. The dismissal occurred in the fourth delivery of the 53rd over just before Tea.

Ashwin is one of the greatest Indian spinners to play the game. The Chennai-born made his international debut back in 2010 and went onto become one of the biggest match-winners for India in modern day cricket. Most of his wickets have come in the longest form of the game where he has now 477 wickets in 93 matches.

Additionally, Ashwin has picked up 151 wickets in 113 ODIs, followed by 72 wickets in 65 T20 internationals. He is still the backbone of Indian spin attack in Test cricket and will be striving to achieve more in near future.

The 36-year-old is also only the fourth active player overall and the only Indian to have 700 or more international wickets alongside James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Tim Southee.

Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan leads the list of most international wickets with 1347 to his name and is followed by the Australian great, Shane Warne (1001) and James Anderson (975), Anil Kumble (956) and Glenn McGrath (949) are fourth and fifth on the list respectively.
