Day 1 of the ongoing first Test between West Indies and India in Dominica witnessed India's leading off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin rattle the hosts, claiming a record 33rd five-wicket haul.

Ashwin's fifer helped India fold West Indies fold for 150, and then skipper Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal added 80 runs, with the visitors going into stump still trailing by 70.

Ashwin expressed his disappointment over missing out on the all-important ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia after the day's play. While talking to OneCricket's correspondent, the No.1 Ranked Test Bowler stated that he has moved on and wants to continue performing in the red-ball arena.

Here's what Ashwin said

"As a cricketer when you have a shot at a WTC Final and to sit out is fine. For me, it was how do I respond and how do I make sure the dressing room is up and about. Winning the WTC Final is the most important thing and it could have been a very high point in my career and I could have played a good role in it, but it was just unfortunate that it didn’t pan out and the first day left us too far behind in the shed."

"But what is the difference between me and another person that is going to sulk (about being dropped). All I would like to give my teammates and India cricket as a whole is some understanding and my best efforts on the field and that is where I would like to leave it."

Talking about his record-breaking five-wicket haul, the all-rounder maintained that for him, only helping the team win matters, and not individual glory at this stage of his career.

Ashwin, during the course of Day 1, also became the third Indian bowler to pick 700 international scalps and also the only Indian to claim wickets of father-son duo in Test cricket.
