Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle recently expressed high praise for Rohit Sharma, particularly in light of the Indian captain's accomplishment of surpassing the erstwhile opener's record for the most sixes in all formats of cricket.

Gayle lauds Rohit's record-breaking sixes

Speaking at a media roundtable during the Legends League Cricket, where Gayle represents the Gujarat Giants, he highlighted Rohit's significant contributions to the Indian team.

While speaking to IANS, Gayle commended Rohit's aggressive style on the field, stating that he admires players who can dominate bowlers, a trait he sees in Rohit. This acknowledgement came after Rohit's notable performance in the recently concluded World Cup 2023, where India finished as runners-up to Australia.

“Want to congratulate Rohit, he is a fantastic player and records are meant to be broken. I like his aggressive batting. I want batters to destroy bowlers, and Rohit Sharma is one of them who does that," said Gayle.

The West Indies stalwart, often called the 'Universe Boss,' also touched upon the upcoming T20I World Cup, scheduled in the West Indies and the USA in June 2024.

He stressed the importance of players like Rohit and Virat Kohli in the Indian squad, acknowledging their substantial contributions to Indian cricket. Gayle suggested that such accomplished players should have the autonomy to decide their future in the team setup.

"Those guys have to make a call for themselves. If they want to play, why not? They have done a lot for the country and they deserve to make a call on themselves," added the dynamic southpaw.

Meanwhile, Rohit, who is currently resting from India's ongoing T20I series against Australia, has been instrumental in leading India in various formats, with his recent achievements adding to his growing legacy in the sport.
