Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav slapped a sparkling century, and ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav snared five quick wickets as the two cricketers headlined the team’s series-levelling win over South Africa in the third T20I in Johannesburg.

After the match, Suryakumar gave an update on the possible injury scare he suffered during the game and praised Kuldeep for dismantling the opposition’s lower-half.

Suryakumar Yadav exults after India levels series

India’s stand-in skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, plundered a scorching 100 from just 56 balls to bolster the team’s total to 201-7 after early powerplay setbacks. The cricketer was fittingly adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his series-levelling knock at the Wanderers Stadium.

During the post-match presentation, the 33-year-old acknowledged his team’s comprehensive 106-run win over the Proteas and stated that they strive to play such a brand of cricket every time they take the field.

Suryakumar also gave an update regarding a potential injury scare, one he sustained while fielding during the South African innings. He said:

“I am good. Not doing bad and I am walking. Always a great feeling to get triple figures and then to win the match in the end was great to see. Yes, that's right. We wanted to play that brand of cricket and glad could play that way.”

Suryakumar Yadav also praised spinner Kuldeep Yadav for his sizzling five-wicket haul. Notably, Kuldeep demolished the entirety of the South African tail as he finished with 5-17 from just 3.5 overs. Captain Suryakumar added:

“Kuldeep Yadav is working really hard and he is never happy with 3 wickets or 4 wickets. He always wants more. To get 5 wickets in the end was great to see from him.”

Suryakumar Yadav also took home the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his 156-run haul across the two T20Is.

Team India will now face South Africa in three ODIs before concluding their tour with Test matches next month.
