Suryakumar Yadav unleashed an extraordinary sequence of boundaries and sixes upon arriving to the crease against South Africa in the series-deciding third T20I at Johannesburg. The stand-in Indian skipper started cautiously, taking 29 balls to reach 35* before ripping hosts speedster Andile Phehlukwayo apart with a 23-run over.

Suryakumar eventually completed another century from just 55 balls, thus notching up the fourth ton of his glittering T20I career. Remarkably, through the course of his batting masterclass, the 33-year-old also soared past Virat Kohli for a huge Indian batting record, and is currently falling behind only team’s regular skipper Rohit Sharma in an elite list.

Suryakumar Yadav goes past Virat Kohli in sixes

Suryakumar Yadav, who made his T20I a little over two years ago, has already belted over 100 sixes in the format to become one of the fastest batters in history to do. The cricketer took field against South Africa in the series-decider at Johannesburg with 115 maximums to his name.

The right-hander added few more to his tally through his six-hitting frenzy against the Proteas to go past Virat Kohli’s T20I tally of 117 hits over the fence.

As of now, Suryakumar is sitting at 122 T20I sixes, in significantly lesser time in comparison to that of Kohli.

Batting veteran and regular Indian skipper Rohit Sharma continues to sit at the top of T20I’s six-hitting pile with 182 maximums.

Earlier this week, Suryakumar Yadav also levelled Virat Kohli for another record, during his 56-run counterpunch against South Africa in the second T20I at Port Elizabeth. He completed 2,000 runs in the format through his knock, achieving the feat in just 56 innings to level up with Kohli.

The two Indian cricketers are only trailing Pakistan batting legends Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in terms of quickest to get to 2,000 T20I runs (52 innings).
