'He's Playing Selfishly...': Ashwin's Take On Sanju Samson's IPL 2024 Campaign

In the do or die eliminator match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL 2024, senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin proved to be the match winner for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). 

Ashwin's top performance earned him the title of the most valuable player award as well.

After the game R Ashwin didn't hesitate to laud his captain, Sanju Samson, for his exceptional contributions throughout the tournament.

Ashwin acknowledges Sanju Samson

Ashwin acknowledges that Sanju may feel he played selfishly, but he firmly believes that even if that were the case, it ultimately benefited the team.

In 14 innings played, Sanju Samson has scored an impressive total of 521 runs, with an average of 52.10 and a striking rate of 155.52. This season marks his best performance in terms of run scoring, surpassing his previous best of 484 runs in 2021. 

Even though Sanju Samson regret, throwing away his wicket at the top, Ashwin firmly believes that Sanju's innings proved to be beneficial for the team.

"With Sanju, if you ask him, he’ll say he’s been playing very selfishly this year, but he’s striking at 165 (155.52). That’s exactly what we needed from Sanju Samson this year. I’m so happy for him, and I’m thrilled that he’s made it to the Indian World Cup side"-Ashwin told while speaking to Star Sports after the game. 

Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant stand as India's wicketkeeping options for the upcoming World Cup. 

The decision on who will start in the playing eleven rests with Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and the team management.

Sanju led RR will face SRH at Chepauk stadium, tomorrow on qualifier 2. If they win they will face KKR at finals.
