Mohammed Siraj and Rohit Sharma [Source: @CricCrazyJohns, @imkevin149/x.com]
When you knock over a giant like Rohit Sharma, most bowlers would go over the top with their celebration. But not Mohammed Siraj, not when it’s Rohit bhai.
Siraj Opens Up On His Muted Celebration After Rohit’s Wicket
During an early-season clash between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, Siraj produced an absolute peach to castle the MI skipper. But instead of his usual Ronaldo-style “Siuu” celebration, the Hyderabad pacer kept it cool with arms out, a point to himself and a calm-down gesture.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s Gen Bold special, Siraj opened up about why he didn’t let loose after that Rohit wicket.
“I have a lot of respect for him, which is why I didn’t celebrate much,” he said, as quoted by IANS. “I tried swinging the ball twice, but it didn’t work. Then I stuck to my plan and got the wicket.”
And it wasn’t just any wicket. Rohit had cracked him for two crisp boundaries in the same over, both off in-swingers drifting too much on the pads. But Mohammed Siraj came back strong. A scrambled-seam beauty on a length outside off, nipping back and crashing into the stumps.
The contest had some off-field heat too. Siraj had just been left out of India’s Champions Trophy squad, which was being led by none other than Rohit Sharma. The word from selectors was that Siraj wasn’t trusted beyond the powerplay. But Siraj didn’t bite.
“My plan was to stay in the present,” he said. “The Champions Trophy selection was very important to me, but I told myself it’s not over yet. I had to enjoy my bowling again.”
He has clearly turned a corner this season. No sulking. No blame game. Just hard work. And the results are showing.
When asked about his best moment of the season, Siraj didn’t hesitate. His 4/17 spell against Sunrisers Hyderabad, in front of his family at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, tops the list.
“The most memorable moment was having my family in the stadium,” he said. “My parents supported me so much and worked really hard — we’ve seen tough times. But when their son performs in front of thousands, they feel proud.”
Even though he was technically the visiting player, Siraj said it felt like bowling at home. And when you pick four wickets with your folks watching on from the stands? That hits different.
Siraj vs Rohit Part 2 Loading
The two will square off again on Friday in the Eliminator and the stakes couldn’t be higher. MI vs GT, Rohit Sharma vs Mohammed Siraj, knockout pressure, this one has got all the ingredients of a blockbuster.
And if Siraj knocks Rohit over again, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the celebration is muted once more. Because some rivalries are built on fire, but the great ones? They are built on respect.
