'Hasn't Hit Nail At Its Head' - Ian Bishop Criticizes Starc's Price Tag Of 24.75 CR

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who stand second in the table after winning four games so far, have been enjoying a good start to this year's Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) campaign.

However, Mitchell Starc, after being bought by them for a whopping 24.75 crores, hasn't bowled as per expectations, and Ian Bishop hasn't shied away from criticising him.

So far, the Aussie has conceded at an economy rate of 10.55 this season, while taking just 5 wickets in 6 games and has been rightly called out by Bishop.

The broadcaster, who is well respected for his analysis feels that, for all the reputation he brings in, Starc hasn't stepped up in this tournament.

"I would assume that Mitchell Starc, especially at that price, hasn't really hit the nail on its head. He got three wickets last game but tonight (on Tuesday) again he would have been hoping to step up."

While talking to ESPNCricinfo talked about some instances from yesterday's loss against Rajasthan Royals where the southpaw wasn't backing himself and his plan and not doing little things correctly.

"There was this one over, where he was going wide, wide, wide. When you need sixes, I think it's a good plan. Then you talk about backing yourself - of course, there was that five wides and the short ball which he got hooked for when there was nobody at the square. Instead of sticking with the wides, he moved back. So yeah, like I said, it's the little things," Bishop added.

Starc returned to this year's IPL for the first time since 2015, on the back of winning WTC Final and both ODI & T20 World Cups in the meanwhile. So, the expectations were high, which is why he went for that amount in the auction.

With half the tournament still to go, KKR stands as firm favourites to make it to the playoffs.

Hence, both parties would like to turn things around for the good and bring the glory back to the city of joy. Next up, they will host RCB at home on Sunday, April 21.
