India’s young pacer Harshit Rana is gearing up for one of the biggest stages of his career so far with the Asia Cup 2025 set to begin on September 9 in the UAE. The 23-year-old quick, who has been making headlines with his fast pace and aggressive attitude, has now opened up about the one captain he admires the most.

Harshit Rana Picks Rohit Sharma As His Favourite Skipper

While speaking to Sports Tak, Harshit Rana didn’t mince words when asked about his favourite skipper.

“Rohit bhai is my favourite captain. Compared to others, he is a very very smart captain,” Rana said.

It is a big compliment coming from a youngster who is just entering the Indian setup, especially when he will actually be playing under Suryakumar Yadav in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

Road To The Asia Cup

Rana’s inclusion in India’s Asia Cup squad raised a few eyebrows, considering India’s pace attack is already packed with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya. The Delhi quick has only played one T20I for India so far, debuting as a concussion substitute against England in January this year, where he impressed with figures of 3/33.

In the IPL, Rana had a mixed season. He played 13 games, taking 15 wickets but also leaking runs at over 10 per over. Critics questioned his spot in a high-stakes tournament but the selectors clearly see him as one for the future.

Before the Asia Cup, Rana has been sharpening his skills in the DPL 2025, turning out for North Delhi Strikers. He is currently the joint third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 11 scalps in eight matches at an average of 19.18. Those numbers have strengthened his case as a back-up option in India’s pace arsenal.

Realistically, Rana may not get a start in the Asia Cup with Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik locked in as the first-choice trio. But being part of a major tournament is a huge learning curve in itself.

For now, Harshit Rana will be waiting in the wings and if his chance comes, he will be desperate to make it count, just like he did on debut earlier this year.
