In a big announcement ahead of the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), the North Delhi Strikers have named Harshit Rana as their new captain. Harshit, a promising Indian fast bowler and key player for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, will now be leading the side in this year’s tournament.
Harshit Rana Replaces Pranshu Vijayran As Captain
Harshit Rana takes over the captaincy from young batsman Pranshu Vijayran, who led the team in the previous season. Rana was retained by the North Delhi Strikers ahead of the DPL 2025 auction, which took place on July 6. His appointment as captain comes as a strategic move, likely aiming to bring more firepower and leadership to the side.
Harshit has steadily risen through the ranks since joining KKR in 2022. The right-arm fast bowler made headlines during IPL 2024 by putting in standout performances. He picked up 19 wickets in 13 matches, making him the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker of the season. His consistency and aggression with the ball were crucial in helping KKR lift their third IPL trophy.
Despite his success, Harshit did face a minor setback, he was handed a one-match suspension for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, showing his fiery side on the field.
In his career so far, Harshit Rana has played 39 T20 matches, bowling in 37 innings and taking 46 wickets at an economy rate of 9.36.
His stats, combined with his on-field presence, make him a strong candidate for leadership roles not just in DPL, but potentially even for future captaincy considerations in teams like KKR.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced on July 1 that the DPL 2025 season will now feature eight teams, up from six in its inaugural edition last year. The league is expected to begin in the first week of August, with all matches played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
